I’m passionate about hoyas. Growing and propagating hoyas, and collecting them. But just as much as I Iove to be surrounded by these plants, I am immersed in their history, taxonomy and the stories of other collectors.
What started as hours spent trying to find answers to one puzzle or another turned into many more hours spent up all night reading papers and old publications, or getting up the nerve to send a message to someone I was certain could crack open some hoya mystery (but was equally certain didn’t want to hear from a weird stranger at 4am).
The resulting research culminated in still more questions, and a wonderful array of friendships in the hoya community. I quickly found the hoya hobbyist equivalent of trading cuttings over my neighbor’s fencepost; except in this case, it was not only cuttings, but wonderful stories and information. Nearly as soon as these stories, histories, and publications started to file through my mind, I felt compelled to somehow catalog them and pull them together so that others could add their own stories and insight, and they would not be lost.
On here I will (often quite clumsily) do my best to elucidate scientific publications related to the genus, determine the origins of particular cultivars, compare various clones in cultivation to their publications, etc, and hope to connect more to the hoya community at large.
Build a hoya history with me..
If you would like to chat about your special hoya, something you know about a particular cultivar, who created carnosa ‘Wilbur Graves’, or where Loyce Andrews got the original stateside clone of Hoya loyceandrewsiana .. please reach out.
